Default Timing Belt: years or miles?

Hi everyone,

My friend has 40,000 miles (not a lexus.... Honda Accord V6) on his car, but its about 9 years old. He was told he should replace his timing belt even though it hasn't accumulated many miles?

Timing belt should be service in 90k or 6-7 year interval. So even though he may not rack up as many miles, rubber does age. 9 years is quite a long time already. He should get it changed.

Agree, time takes it's toll on rubber

^^^ Ditto. The belt is still turning and wearing when the car is idling. Stop and go puts more wear on it than cruising down the highway.

Since most Honda engines are interferance engines, i would definately change it out. Piece of mind, if nothing else. But i would recommend to do it at that age anyway.
