Question AIR injection pump, emissions

1993 LS400 150,000 miles
Have the intake manifolds off for starter replacement. Emissions air injection pump (electric) sitting there, thought it would be good to test if possible to see if noisy, etc. Can't find much info in Lexus service manual. Was this for California cars only ? Does it run constantly or just at startup when cold ? Five wires going to it: ground, 12 volts through relay, and three to computer. Is it multiple speed ? What do wires to computer do ? Can I jumper in 12 volts to make it run, if so what pins. THANKS Herm

California Emissions only, yes...

As far as wires, my diagram shows four wires to it...

Green goes to ECM, white/black goes to ground, white/red goes to relay block, white goes to the data link connector...

Herm.
Did you ever get the starter replaced and if so how? There's so much stuff behind the bell housing that I can't get to the starter bolts.

Yes - I found info in posting in Club Lexus. Removed rear transmission mount, transmission and engine sagged down enough to reach up from back/botton over transmission with two long extentions and flexible coupling. Needs to be done carefully, safety jacks under vehicle and engine transmission, etc. Suggest you search Club Lexus for postings with further details.
