Valve Cover Replacement
Hi guys,
I've done a search and I'm half-hearted about this whole situation. Before I go on here's info on my car...
Car: 1997 Toyota Soarer 2.5GT-t
Motor: 1JZGTE (2.5L VVTi, single turbo)
ODO Reading: 112xxx kms (69xxx mls)
I'm in need to replace the valve cover gaskets. The question is do I need to put on some sealer onto the gasket before putting it all together? I'm getting answers where I do need it and where I can get away without it.
So, is it a yay or nay on using sealant?

Use a small dab at the corners of the cam saddles where the valve cover gasket has to go up and over them. Just dab a little there to give them a better seal do not use on any other part of the gasket.

The best way to assure no leakage for 10+ years is to use a factory valve cover gasket and factory FIPG sealer and to read the factory manual for advice about where to apply the FIPG sealer (a tube of sealer is about $15 from a Toyota dealer)
