Hi mitsuguy,

I need to replace the main seal(could I get labor and parts) on my '94 LS400; while its there I want to replace the torque converter (will be aftermarket, so I only need the laborhours for that)

Thanks!

Edit: Oh, and does anyone know how often these rear main seals should be replaced, I've seen the problem on a couple other users as well.

There technically isn't a main seal interval, however, on older vehicles, it just decides to give up the ghost and start drippin...

At any rate, mine died too...

5.5 hours R/R rear main seal, add .1 for the torque converter...

if you just did the torque converter, it's 5 hours for the trans and .1 for the converter...

pretty sure the seal is 90311-A0002, list $27

I just got a quote from Lexus dealer to replace headlight assembly for both headlights. quote was 1180 per assembly and and 850 for labor.
Any thoughts on this and any way to reduce this cost?
Thanks

No problem... thats the info I was needing!!!

Anyways, sounds high, but lets see... (what the hell is wrong with them?)

I show part numbers: 81130-50251 (left), list $1115.47 and 81170-50251 (right) $1115.47

Labor sounds real high, but for some reason, Mitchell only lists headlamp adjustment at .5 hours and bulb replacement at 1.2 hours... Sorry, but it does not list complete assembly replacement... $850 for that labor sounds ridiculous...

(what the hell is wrong with them?)

My thoughts as well. They indicated that the motor in the left one only pans right to left and the right one pans up and down. He indicated that the whole assembly needs to be replace since there are no parts for motor replacement. I would think the labor is would be similar to doing body work with the replacement of the assembly.

The service rep seemed to be surprised as well. Ever heard of this? Any ideas on the cause?
The issue is the headlights shine only about 25' forward and then it goes dark.

Thanks for your responses.

Damn, I'm at home now, but I remember reading individual part numbers and labor times for the motors, controllers, and others... I'll recheck tomorrow...

ok, I rechecked... although most of the parts have labor times, it appears Lexus does not sell them individually...

Thanks for checking. Does that mean that other parts houses do not sell the individual components. Are there any other options? such has converting to different types of lights. Thanks for any help for I really did not need a $3200 repair bill.

Mitsuguy, are you able to look up for parts other than lexus?

I have a 1992 acura legend LS sedan. I'm going to need to replace the headgasket eventually. I have a feeling its an 8-10hr job, but what does your magical catalog say?

Man, all of that is standard services... Inspection of everything should hopefully be free or extremely cheap. There is no labor time for inspection of those. The Cabin air filter (a/c filter) labor should be around $20-$30, brake flush should be around $90, oil change depends on weight of oil, and the only other thing on there worth noting price is spark plugs... which car and motor?
