Default Temp or Permanent Type IV in stearing pump

I had a situation where among the fluids at hand was Toyota Type IV ATF and PS reservoir was low.

Any one forsees a problem with using Toyota type IV instead of reccomended Dexron II ATF?

Also any issues with coexistance of Dexron II and Toyota type IV in PSP.

Vehicle '95 SC400.

my only question would be why????

Toyota T-IV fluid is like 2-3x more expensive than regular Dexron-II.

and the PS pump only needs D-II fluid.

Toyota Type IV, unused, was left over from trans drain and fill.

For Dexron II, I would have had to go buy a quart.

i bought a case of type IV atf in march 04 and still have a few quarts left. i've used it in my ps system with no adverse effects, considering it cost me about $3.50/quart back then and the cheapest generic dexron III i can find now costs about $2.99/quart. no harm done and saves a trip to the store just for a quart of atf.

I think Toyota recommends using the type IV ATF in the PS system. At least that's what my cap says on my GS400.

Cool

Do not use TT-IV in place of Dexron.
If that were a good idea, Toyota/Lexus would have issued a tsib stating that it was OK long ago.

TSB are only issued if the "Normal" process is not adequate.

If DexII was underperfoming (can't think of the right word). You would see a TSB. Extra improvement is the owners choice. ex synthetic vs non-synthetic oil. Note in my situation, that was the only choice at hand.

I would have not asked if I had used DexIV (fictititious), but ppl have cautioned that Toyota Type IV atf is different. My major concern has been about co-existance.

Thank you all who contributed. I will post, if there are problems encountered down the road. [the most reassuring post was ... GS4 reccomends Toyota Type IV atf for psp].

OK i just check again. my cap says use dexron type II or just dexron. The thing is, i've been using type T-IV for awhile now and i haven't ran into any problem.. Then again, i only put a couple of ounce in so I doubt that'll do damage.

It's probably better to go with the regular toyota ATF (dexron) though.

Toyota has in fact issued a TSIB regarding the fact that T IV can be used to replace Dx II/III. However, it doesn't work the other way around, i.e Dex III can be used to replace T IV application. No issue at all with using it in the PS system.
