I don't know about this recalibration deal but it sounds like worth a try. Recalibration probably means adding a resistor to the circuit or something to have them dim at the same level as the others no big deal.

Default OK...

OK here is the skinny on the best bet for my dilemma.

I spoke with the gentleman who offered to sell me the needles. He has a deal with a Lexus dealership that he does work for. Price for 2 needles? $350, wow. The guy was very cool, and informed me that even if I did shell out the money I would most probably mess up my gauges. He suggested I just get the top plate of the instrument cluster (as it is made up of a top and bottom "plate") from a junkyard and just replace the entire top plate.

So I guess you can really mess up the gauge itself if you try and replace the needles alone.

Now lets see if I can find a decent junkyard in the Boston/Hartford area.

Here's an idea. After reading all the replies to this HOT subject about crucial needles going out for MANY people. How about contacting the guy that gave the 350.00 quote and inform him that MANY people will be purchasing the needles from him. How about working a deal with us all? I think that we can nego. starting @ 200.00 then work up. I think that if we all combine our needs for these needles then maybe we ALL can strike a price.

How about it gang?

BTW, can you email the person's info(email and #)

Moe

Default fading SC dash

Lexus Soarer Club site has a fix for the SC dash. Their article talks about replacing two capacitors and one transistor to restore a fading dash. Mine is fading right to left. http://www.jkwebdesign.co.uk/lexuscl...ationmeter.htm
I am doing mine this summer.

Default not that...

That fix is for the backlighting in another model Lexus. We are talking about the lighting inside the gauge needles.

Default Lights

My lexus es300 have a similar problem but it is still visible for now. I would go to a junk yard to replace it.
The dealer would charge $150 per bulb and the total cost car be at least over $500.

Any updates on this?

A buddy of mine has my old SC400 and needs to replace the speedo needle.

What is the "trick" to removing the needle? Does one just make sure to remove the needle by pulling it straight out?

Thanks,
Steve

Default How to take out the Dashboard Cluster

How would we take it out? Can someone give me some instructions on it, if you can attach some photos as well. Thank you very much.

I have that top plate for a 93 ES for sale. It is brand new. It will probably fit other years. I bought it thinking that it would work for my problem, but when I took it to my dealer to have it installed, they said that I needed the whole cluster because my RPM guage isn't working at all. So if anyone wants this top plate, let me know.
