O2 sensor wire melted.. replace and now running rough
One of my O2 sensor clips broke and the wire landed against the exhaust manifold melting the wire and the clip. The car idles very rough and dies unless i give it throttle. I purchased a new O2 sensor in hopes that would fix the problem however since the clip is gone it is difficult to see if i have it wired correctly.
On the engine side there is a single wire with what appears to be metal shielding and/or ground.
On the new and old O2 sensor there is a single thin hard wire with metal shielding/grounding around it (no insulation between the two). Ive tried to connect the wires in various combinations yet it still is idling the same.
I have checked all the fuses in the engine bay and kick panel and they are all OK. I am at a loss as to what to do.

What make, type and year is "none" ... are we discussing ?
You may have shorted and ruined the ECM for the engine management...
These are the fuses I would insure are intact.

Did you pull off the negative battery cable to reset the ECM?
This sometimes works wonders.
The only things that screw up in this department are the sensor, harness or ECM.

bah! this is so annoying. I twisted the wires together and tested it.. Ran fine for 20 minutes or so. Then I soldered them together and retested.. Back to square one. It stutters and dies when idling. So I took it apart and tried again. This time it ran fine so i pulled it out of the garage to wash. Now it is doing the same stuttering and dieing. What could possibly be causing this?

After some playing with things the car now idles normally. However giving "light" throttle kills the engine. Medium to heavy throttle seems fine and the exhaust smells very rich. The CEL is now on. Just wondering what these symptoms point towards?
