Saving $$$ on maintance cost at dealer
Just bought a SC430, I've had a 1992 SC back in 92 and a LS back in 97. I use to save a ton on service costs by avoiding the "packaged" service deals, Lexus tries to sell. I would get a price for any item on the service interval that said "change" or "replace" and have that done. Then I would also have the oil/filter service done that comes with a 29 to 59 service check list of items that they look at and check. Say the normal 30K miles service package costs $599 and all that Lexus calls for is a bunch of checks and say a antifreeze change and a airfilter change and a differential fluid change and the oil and filter change. If you just go in and ask to have these items changed and priced individually you will pay 1/2 of the package price and get the same service. I would even spread some stuff out. Like have the differential done at 50K miles and the antifreeze and air filter done at 55K miles. So at 60K miles all that was needed per the owners manual was the oil/filter change that covered all of the items that needed to be checked. Also by breaking this up I would normally get a "new" free loaner car since at 50K they were doing the antifreeze along with the normal Oil/filter, so I drove around on there gas most of the day. I just posted this to give others a heads up on how to save some $$$ get all of the required service done and not get ripped off on the service packages. PS- even though you are dealing with a Lexus dealership "ALWAYS" check your oil before you drive off to make sure they put some back in. On my wifes 92 ES300 after a service I got in and drove off and the oil light came on discovered that they forgot to put oil in her. Not good. That was at Hennessy Lexus in Atlanta. They made it right but it is always good to check.
