wont start - sc400 1992 w/ 191K miles
it seemed to me that for the past 2000 miles my car was having a little hesitation starting.
it would be bad on the first cold start, and progressively get better throughout the day.
well, these past few days it has been bad, and I had a suspicion that it was my starter.
tonight, my car wouldn't start. the lights, and stereo, etc all seemed like they were getting enough power, but my car wouldn't turn over.
the first few times it would try to start, and then eventually i just got this rapid fire "click click click click" sound
anyone know the diagnosis for this?
i had heard that the starters in these cars go bad...

The rapid fire clicking indicates a weak battery... if the starter was beginning to wear out, you would get a single click when turning the key. I would check battery contacts, ground points, and battery charge first... if that doesnt help, then i would look into replacing the starter... start simple..

reason why i didn't think it was the battery initially was because when i tried to jump the car, it wouldn't jump.
but, You are right.
i called the AAA the next day, and the guy jumped it for me. he said the jumper cables we were using were "crap"
i replaced the battery in front of a kragen yesterday and am doing fine now. Thanks for the know how on the sound.
i'll know now if my starter really does go out.
