Head gasket replacement
I send my car to a friend of my dad about 3 weeks ago. He's a mechanic but he said he'll charge half of the real cost to replace the gasket.I waited for 3 weeks He didn't do nothing with the car so tomorrow I'm taking the car back to my house to replace the gasket myself.Yes I know all the important things I need to know and I have all the instructions with me.Now a few questions. My mechanic said that it's better to replace my exhaust gasket and O ring for the starter motor too.Did any of you did that when you replaced your gasket? Is it really neccessary? Also I'm wondering since I'm taking the engine apart I'm sure that I'll find a lot of sludge buildup in there. So What is the best way to clean the engine?Since I'm taking it apart I want to clean everything before I put it back. And also one thing. My trunk doesn'yt open anymore Y???And how do i open it without breaking the lock.It was working fine till I got it to that guy.He already removed the gas tank and the radiator. Now I got to do the rest.......

he was going to do a head gasket job and he had to remove the the gas tank why? anyway, it is a good idea to replace all gaskets you remove, broken ones for sure. Ive put together some motors whre the customer didnt have money for exhaust and intake gaskets but if you take it off carefull enough the gaskets wont break and you can, but shouldent reuse them.
its best to have it bead blasted and hot tanked as for as cleaning. Im not to sure how at homers do it but we always bead and hot tank they come out like factory. Plus if you ever need to clean the outside, all you need is brake cleaner and everything comes right off

I already did it.And yes your posts came in too late. But yeah I still wonder why did he take the gas tank off and he had to remove the front bumber to remove the radiator.I can remove the radiator without removing the bumper. The instruction I had also said that I had to remove the gas tank but I think that manual was written for a car that has teh engine in the back.Maybe an mr2 or something. But we had some good laughs when we were working on this car.Things were unnecessarly removed.Bumber was removed.and everything. The weird thing is.My trunk suddenly starded to operate normally again.Why.?Was it because the gas tank was out that the trunk could not open or what.Is the lock on the trunk itself electric?Because I had the battery removed. But normally a trunk should open with or without the battery. But this is a Lexus so who knows...
