Default proper warm up

i read somewhere that the best way to warm up your car is to start it up, start driving but accelerating very slowly because idling is actually bad for your car when warming up.

would you agree or disagree...

Now that I have and automatic car again, I usually warm it up enough for the transmission fluid to heat up. Same thing like my bike, I have to warm it up so the the clutches grab. You will notice a different in shifts. Once your tranny fluid heats up it shifts more smoothly.

I believe that Toyota suggests warming up this way. They do not recommend letting it idle very long in Park. I do as you suggest. Start up, let RPMS drop back down, set XM radio to 202 and start backing out of garage.

how is idle bad for warming up, when your car is started there is basically no lubrication until the oil starts warming up and circulating, i sure dont want to start driving it when lubrication hasnt built up. Idle has the lowest stress on the engine and I would most certaintly want the lowest stress possible when the oil hasnt heated up yet. Normal days I let it idle for about 30-45 seconds, in the winter maybe 1.5 minutes.

well the thing is that the oils need to disperse. they can warm up... but it doesn't circulate unless the engine gets rev'd a bit. that's why you should drive around slowly with slow acceleration

i think this is also in the owner's manual i'm going to check that.

Default From the Owner's Manual

ok so here's what it says in my 98 GS owner's manual under "How to save fuel and make your vehicle last longer"

Avoid lengthy warm-up idling (drive gently, will take longer in winter duh)
Accelerate slowly and smoothly (unfortunate for us enthusiasts hehe)
Avoid long engine idling (better to turn off car)

shoulda just referred to the manual heh. WELL THAT'S A GOOD FYI for everyone at least.
