Default Major Tuneup or Fix Leaking A/C?

Hi All,

Just need a little advice from the wise. My mechanic quoted 380 to fix my A/C (replace compressor, dryer and recharge). On the other hand my MPG isn't that great and I'm idling a little low (300-400), so I'm probably in need of a Major Tune-up. I think he quoted me 400-500 for that.

Side question: What's generally included in Major Tune-ups and what is gained?

I'm thinking Major Tune-up first... but it's getting hot around here... black car in SoCal sun =

Thanks in advance.

You would have to go for the tune-up. What good is your a/c when your car is broke down in front of your drive way. When I do a tune up, I change distributor cap, rotor, sparkplugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, check brakes, and change filter gasket and fluid from the transmission. Just completed all of that yesterday. Car runs like a champ!!!!!!

Tune the car yourself for $100 and use the rest to get the AC fixed.
