A/C stop workin in 95 degree weather (HELP!!)
THE STORY:
Wassup yall, i gotta 2002 is300 w/ 75k miles. I live in san francisco so the a/c doesnt get used a lot, but the past few days has been extremely hot for some reason. ok i hope in my car and the temperature gauge says 93, so i turn on my a/c and start drivin w/ the windows down. After the 10 mins i expect the a/c to get cooler, but of course not. then 20............30.........40 mins go by and i feel like im dyin. so i turn of the a/c......................
THE PROBLEM:
i noticed a little whistle behind the dash that is only present when i press the a/c button, what the hell is that? im a junior mechanic and i am scratchin my head HARD. Can somebody help me? I really need it, thanks

If it's a whistle accompanied by a chemical/oily smell, you got a leak in the system. R134a has a sweet/petroleum like smell to it. Did you notice a RPM jump as the compressor clutch was disenaging?

I would suggest having the system pressures checked by a good A/C repair shop in your area. Your freon charge may be a little low, needing an add without over charging. They have the equipment to check for leaks and bring your system back to normal...
