Should I go to a Lexus dealer for an oil change? Does it matter where you go? I wont got to those quicky lube places, but a reputable service station. What is the cost of an oil change at a dealer?

Thanks
Mike

Mike, it's difficult to separate the charges just for the oil change because many times other things are also due at the recommended oil change intervals (5,000 miles). As near as I can break it down from my 45k mile service ($870.32), it looks to be about $28 at the dealership.

And yes, I would recommend having all service done at the dealership. Certainly you'll pay more, but I get a warm fuzzy feeling by having all services performed by the same folks who treat me as someone special and not just a number. I like the pampering, although I know I pay for it.

Any ASE-certified shop can perform routine work like brakes and suspension work, mufflers, oil changes, alternator replacement and so forth. It is after all, just another Toyota. However, I would say major things, such as the timing belt replacement and any other internal engine work needs to take place at the Lexus shop.

Oil changes can be done just about anywhere you're comfortable taking your car. You can even do it yourself. Just keep your records for warranty info.

Some here buy their filters from Carson Toyota or from their local dealer or buy Mobil 1 filters and bring them to the local Quick Lube. There is nothing wrong with the local oil change places.

And if you want to pay the dealer at $70-$85/hr that's fine too. Your choice.
