I got quoted for $195 just for the plugs. It's another 2 something for the cap and rotor. Is it really this much? I think it's a DIY with the plugs running only running around $80-90.

There's a cap and rotor for the GSxxx??? Do the plugs yourself.....there is plenty of info on CL that will help.

There are no cap/rotor on our GS4's. We have a distributionless system with coil packs. Changing the plugs takes less than an hour to do. Then again, dealers will probably want $100 for the plugs, and then $95 for labor (takes about an hour sometimes, for them. lol).

DIY is better in terms of money saving.

Are there crush washers on our spark plugs? Are they recommended? I know we have them on some of our fluid drain plugs.

Crushwashers are preinstalled on the plugs... Japanese plugs anyway.

Plugs on all non-distro baseds 1UZs should be Denso PK20R-11
coil-pack based ones are Denso Iridium plugs, IIRC IK20R-11

Sounds like the price for changing out the RX plugs, luckily my uncle and I do it ourselves.

If you keep the car for 200k-mi and have to spend $200 to change the plugs once (at 100k-mi or so), that doesn't sound too bad to me. It's down in the noise compared to the other maintenance expenses, not to mention gasoline.
