Check your local Wal-Marts guys.
the 5 qt jugs in 5w-30, 10w-30, 15w-40 are on sale.
They usually have these once in awhile.

considering that 5 1-qt bottle will cost you $4.25-4.50/each, this is a steal. I am supplied for the next 10 oil changes

MB one for the price is the best! don't use Quaker State they die the crap green  If you ever take a engine that has used it...you will see this green coating.

correct me if I am wrong mean gene or anyone.

Question Green??

mG - I haven't used QS EVER in my life! I used to work at a speed shop & U could tell who had been running it as soon as U took off one valve cover - generally was a layer of sludge there! Don't really know if that was because the QS broke down or if it had a high paraffin content but seeing that was enough to steer me away. Have to go check Wally World for the M1 & look for the green QS ( that's a new one for me ). I thought only Royal Purple & Redline dyed their oils.
Will - For Cali, I'd think the 10W-30 would be a slightly better choice since it doesn't get very cold down there ( does it? ) so the pumpability of 5 weight isn't of a big concern. Either grade will be OK if U can find some of the 5W-30 on sale instead of the 0W-30.

Default Mobil 1

Are you sure that the oil that is on sale is the Mobil 1 and not the Mobil Run Clean or whatever they call their blended oil? I went to WalMart here in Atlanta today at lunch and no sale. The Mobil1 case was $26.00 just like always.

MG,

thanks for the tips.
so for summer, 10-30 would be good. but if it does get too cold in feb.(rare), i should get the 5-30, correct?

Kaygee,

i have not checked the local prices yet. but i suspect regionap special prices on certain occassions.

It is not in the cases. It is in a 5qt Jug.
maybe it is a regional thing?
But a member here said he found it in Austin, Texas.

That should be fine.
Gene is the expert...I just work with folk like him.
The higher the variation between the 2 numbers (5w-30, 10w-30) the more paraffins, "thickeners" they add. It summer 10-w-30 is fine. I just loaded up on 5w-30. if you are in So cal...I think you should be ok with 5w-30 diring the winters.

On the subject of oils...anyone have opinions on Amsoil? Good or bad, any comments appreciated.

I'm looking at possibly using it in my ES.

Thumbs up Amsoil

Suf4 - Amsoil's right up there with Redline & Mobil 1, IMO. Didn't see it tested in that last SAE survey I view a few weeks ago but remember it scored highly in the test prior to it. Just kinda hard to find ( like Redline ), at least in my area ( w/o shopping online ). BTW - I see where Mobil now has an online store - www.mobil1.com/estore. Haven't checked the prices there as of yet, though.

Mahalo Mean Gene!!

I've since found an Amsoil rep in Hawaii and it looks like they are the only ones to go to if you want the product. "Not sold in stores"

She's gonna set me up with enough oil for 2 changes and 2 filters. I think I'll give it a try on my maxima first.
