Amsoil Oil or Mobile 1 / Castrol Full Synthetic?
#5
Amsoil is the better of the 2. I personally specially order Lubro Moly synthetic from Germany, best stuff out there in my opinion.

At $20.17 for a 5 quart jug ($4.03 a qt) at Wally world I'll stick with Mobil 1.
The question begs to be asked....how much better can oil be for more money???

I'm not an expert by any means but I do read up on anything I find on oil and the bottom line in my book is changing it regularly and synthetics outperform dino oils.
I personally know this from sub zero mornings traveling in North Dakota and feeling how much easier my manual transmissions in the Hondas shifted vs dino oil (hondas used motor oil in their manuals) Of course they started easier too.
I've put on almost a million miles in 20 yrs as a salesman and always run my vehicles into the 200,000+ mile range. My last mini van had 326,000 miles and burned a 1/4 quart every 6,000 miles, which is when I change it.
Sure, one oil might have a touch more of this chemical or that additive but does anyone run a motor out to the end of it's life to check to see if it made any difference???? Most owners average 15,000 miles a year and trade very 4-5 years.......hardly a life test enviroment.
Besides the next person to own it usually could care less about maintaining a vehicle to the standards you or I do.

Mobil1 is just more readily available around my parts than Amsoil.

I used to race gokarts professionally, using 5hp modified briggs and stratton motors that turn over 7000 rpms... heres the results i got from different oils i tried including mobile 1, true castor, and amsoil, royalpurple, and redline...
Mobile1, castor, royal purple, redline all worked great, no real motor wear becides the typical ring wear from the alcohol....
Amsoil = I would melt the rod onto the crankshaft after one heat race of about 5 miles of distance.
Stick with Mobile 1.

I wish they sold Amsoil down here as I have been using Mobil 1 for a long time...and would like to give Amsoil a try.
A lot of the guys at my local 1/4 mile track often hear good things about synthetic oils other than Mobil 1, but it is very hard to substantiate anything when things simply do not exist down here.
Do yourself a favor Amsoil, Redline and Royal Purple and start distrubuting your products down here in Mexico City.
