Default 1994 GS300 Transmission Not Shifting and Codes 21, 25

Hey,

Recently purchased 1994 Lexus GS 300 – details and photos here:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...n-problem.html

I think the primary problem is the transmission is not shifting into any gear. Secondary problem is the car is putting out engine codes 21 and 25. Looking here:

http://www.troublecodes.net/Lexus/

21 - Main O2S & Heater Signal
25 - Air–Fuel Ratio Lean Malfunction

Regarding the tran, I'm told the car was slipping for some time, then when the last fellow got it, it soon went into limp mode (1st gear). And now the tranny appears to be stuck in park; I feel nothing when shifting through the gears and the engine just revs.

The first thing I plan on doing is resetting the engine codes and see if the tranny starts going into gear. If so, then ascertain if the tranny itself is bad.

The next thing might be to check the shift solenoids. I've read resistance can be checked. I'm not finding exactly how to do that other than dropping the pan and pulling each one to check it.

If those checks are fruitless then it appears to me I need to find a used replacement transmission.

Am I missing anything?

Jay Scott.

I'd say good 95% chance that transmission is gone... those two check engine light codes will not cause any issues with the transmission working...

when a transmission slips that badly, what generally happens is the fluid is so dark and contaminated with clutch material that is plugs up the fluid pump and the valvebody...

check solenoids, but be ready to find a transmission...

Thanks.

Do I pull the trans pan to check the solenoids? Pull connections off and use ohm meter and look for 11-15 ohms across solenoid?

From what I see, it might also be the solenoids because my father's LS430 had the same problem when it was stuck in second gear, so he had to change the tranny as a whole. He got a SC430 transmission for less than $2000. So I'd say, that you should find a SC300, or another GS 300/Aristo Transmission. It is going to get easier for the coming years to come to find GS parts since a whole lot of Aristos are coming into the country.
