Gas Is Crazy
Gas is rising ridiculously. It doesnt look like its stopping anytime soon. Up to 3.39 for 92 octane, here in hawaii. Its only been a few months. If it reaches 5.00, I think my SC is gonna be collecting some dust in the garage. My GF's brother lives in china and said they get capped on filling gas now, 100 bucks max (chinese money about 12bucks US) with a really long *** wait. World is getting crazier everday.

Well to answer your question (and start thread number 4254 about octane ratings), the ECU will remap the timing to adjust for lower octane in order to prevent knocking. This results is decreased performance from our cars. If this were the only drawback it might be acceptable, but the one and only time I did this, I noticed a drastic decrease in fuel economy!!! It kind of defeats the purpose of buying cheaper gas if I'm only going to use it faster. The cars were built to run on high octane fuel. Decreasing the level causes the computer to compensate in other areas and in the long run, it's not worth it.

There has been a lot of discussion about being OK to use regular gas even when the manufacturer recommends premium. I have read many times that the ECU will compensate for the lower octane and adjust the timing accordingly. . . But i have heard of people who used regular octance gas such as 87, had problems such as knocking and pinging... i uno .. i dont feel right putting 87 when for $3 more you could get the best..

i use 87 and had no problems thus far. and i just got back from the holiday and got 420 to the full tank. im happy with the performance of the car thus far. 87 does the trick especially when you are paying 3.29 for gas to sit in traffic (LA sucks).

I envy you!!! Unfortunately my results were not as positive! I dropped from 18-19mpg city to 15-16mpg city. For me, sticking with Premium.

You guys need to stop whining about what you are paying for Gas...
Try paying $7.30 per gallon for a while, then you will appreciate just how good you really have it !
It costs me about $128 to fill up so stop your moaning and count your blessings.
