Default Does the check engine light come on for "engine maintenance"?

i have 115000 miles on my GS400 and the check engine light came on a few days ago, i thought it was a reminder for the 115k miles service (not sure if there is one).

Well now that my radiator was punctured and i have to replace it myself, im wondering if theres more i need to do for the service or if something is realy wrong with the car and hsould just take it in to Lexus.

Go by autozone and get them to run an OBDII scan and see what that says.

Check engine light means that it usually emissions related.. iac valve, air flow meter, sparks misfiring...etc... but 95% of the time its a loose gas cap..

maintenance req means that it's time to have your oil change/service

It's more concentrated at dealerships to see the CEL on for a loose gas cap, but for enthusiasts, it usually is not. As suggested, run by Autozone to get a readout and then you can find the CEL codes and figure it out... it may be as simple as a loose gas cap, but it may also be as bas as a blown cylinder (my friend's car, for example)... since drivability hasn't changed, it may be an emissions related component that's dead.

Cannonbear, please take your car to the shop or dealer and get a proper diagnostic. A thread like " My check engine light is on" will get you no where. We can tell you to tighten the gas cap, replace the O2 sensor, change the spark plugs, disconnect the battery, remove the EFI fuse, and so on....

ive never got the maintenence light so i wasnt sure if lexus had the check engine light come on at set mileage services (i.e 115k miles i thought there might be a service), i guess i phrased the question wrong.

It did get checked out once i fixed the radiator though and it was gas cap related.
