Default Airbag Warning Light & OBD II

Ok guys, I have done the searches and there's tons of info about fixing an OBD1 airbag code. I even found a post where a guy asked what about OBD2 and got little help other than take it to the dealer. Well, I checked and the dealer wants $70.00 just to clear this code and I'm sorry but that just offends me. I even said, "Hey I buy a lot of parts from you guys - could you do any better that?" Nope - $69.95!

The light showed itself because I wasn't thinking and started the car after I had dropped my interior blower motor to clear out some insulation that was causing an obstruction. With the fan down, it seemed like a good time to make sure there was no bearing damage....

Blower motor works like a charm - which I traded for no more working airbags...

Got to get it fixed no question. I just HATE paying Toyota dealership $70 to "diagnose" and correct my problem. My local guy's scan machine won't clear this code....

Am I stuck with a $70 oops or can someone get me an inside deal near Charlotte, NC?

BTW - this occurred on my Avalon - my ONLY OBD2 vehicle..

Tell me more about this if you will. DC cutoff can be found where... and is there any danger of firing the bags?

May also look in the fuse box for the ECU fuse, leave it out for 30 - 40 minutes; I think will accomplish the same thing.

On Lexus, the 'map' for the fuses is on the underside of the fusebox cover.

ecu fuse wont do a thing since the air bag system is on a different ecu

Yep ECU doesn't help... that was one of the first things I tried. And from my reading koolaidman is correct about the airbag code being stored in a different computer.

Out of curiousity, what does "dc" actually stand for?

Hey man,

Does the OBDII scanner not remove this?

Go to Autozone and ask them if you can borrow their scanner while someone ( an employee) comes outside with you. They will know why as apparently they get this quite often. Because of insurance reasons, they are not allowed to clear any codes for you. But, you can do it yourself. Takes 30 seconds.

Go to Lexus dealer and find a technician. Tell the tech about your problem and offer to pay him if he can help you look up the code.

Does the OBDII scanner not remove this?
A generic scanner will not remove the Airbag Warning light according to my local mechanic. It seems to be proprietary - needing a Toyota scan machine to clear.

Go to Lexus dealer and find a technician. Tell the tech about your problem and offer to pay him if he can help you look up the code.
The suggestion about hooking up with a tech is probably my best bet. Anyone have an in with any of the techs at Hendrick Lexus in Charlotte, NC? I know one guy from this board that works in detailing there... perhaps I'll drop him a line....

As difficult as it is to clear the OBD1 airbag code - I'm doubting that pulling a fuse is gonna work...
However, I will give it a try this weekend.

OK... EFI fuse didn't do anything...

And no sign of a DC cutoff fuse...

Suggestions?
