My 94 LS definitely got a little quieter after a change to synthetic. What that means , I can't tell you.

Tack up another one for the synthetic newcomers! Once you go synthetic, you'll never go back

Mobil 1 is what i've been using for a LONG time. 5w30, as recommended by lexus. I've got a bottle of 5w40 as well, but haven't used it in the Lex. I hear its not good to use any viscosity other than recommended, any truth to that?

Default Mobile 1 5w-30

I agree with LexSC888. I use Mobile 1, 5w-30 in both my 1992 Lexus SC400 and my 2001 Acura CL . Both run very on this oil. I have used this oil in all of my cars for many years.

I also use Mobil-1 full synthetic, 10W-30 grade in my ES. Oil is strictly changed every 5K miles, and I buy 5 qts from Wal-mart for less than $20. Awesome deal

Despite my best intentions, I let the temp gauge in my 94 LS spike to its capacity before I noticed it last Sunday.

I shut it down & got some water in the coolant resevoir & was able to continue with my short drive. Found & fixed the leak. It was a bad o-ring on a heater bypass line that runs from the bottom of the Thermostat housing under the manifold back to the heater control valve.

Note, my LS coolant system had pressure tested A-OK ( high in fact ) when the TB & coolant & hoses had been changed the month before.

Despite my bad resource management, there was no damage to my 1UZFE engine. The extra-protection of Synthetics/Mobil 1 to extreme heat may have saved my a**!!!

That is a great point, any vehicle that is no longer under warranty, I would think synthetic fluids would always give you additional protection that would cover your rear.

ive never used syn. today for some reason i descided to pull my oil pan off. with and to my amaze. there was very min dammage to piston side walls. i do oil changes 3months or 3k miles. from what ive seen from going with syn. they form a substance like graphite. i dare for some1 to take this test.
use conventional(sp?) oil. put a magnet on the bottom of the pan at ur oil change pull off the pan and look at the residue tell me what u find

do the same with syn. u will see a difference
