I bumped into a Grand Cherokee last fall and have had some scuffs on my rear bumper since. I went to my local bodyshop yesterday to get a quote.

Here are the details:
Bumper removed
Remove plastic chrome molding
Compound stuff to fill in the nicks
Dupont paint with no clear coat (black)
Replace bumper with clips and new molding

All this for $3xx (depending on if I buy molding myself). What do you think? Is the Dupont good stuff? He said Dupont was the near the top.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian S - Almost same incident with my sis 2000 accord. We got a state farm estimate and it was going to cost 198.00 to do the same work as you listed. Or deductible was 200 so we just left it alone cause it was barely noticeable.

But thats on an accord not a lexus. I figure the lexus shouldnt cost 100 more though to fix.

Dupont is a really good company. Up there with PPG . If there not the same company.LOL

Thanks for the assurance 1niceride. I'll probably have him do the work in the next couple weeks. PPG and DuPont are different companies. He said his shop switched a number of years back. One thing he mentioned was that PPG mixes the clear coat and paint together, whereas DuPont keeps it seperate. Most of my Newsgroup searching seemed to indicate that DuPont had good paint, if a little overpriced (paying for the name).

Brain, if you look at my thread "Pic of my exhaust TIPS" , I wanted to paint my bumper because of my scratches. I got quoted at $280 for my complete bumper. Also I wanted to take off my wing, so I got a quote of $450 ! to take off, paint the whole back trunk and sides.

Got any pics of your damage?

I tried to take pics of my bumper, but my crappy digicam wouldn't pick up the scratches and nicks. It's not too bad. There's a couple places where the paint was rubbed off and two small gouges that need to be filled. $450 doesn't seem too high if the do good work.
