Default Hood Insulation Removal

Hi,
Wondering if anybody has ever removed the 'insulation' under the hood. Are there any side affects? Would the heat generated by the engine impact the paint on the hood without it?

Just a question, why do you want to do it? Save weight?

In any case, removing the insulation will make the engine noise louder. In addition, if there is ever an engine fire, there will be no insulation to fall on the engine and smother the flames.

My vote is to keep it on.

Well I was installing my strut bar which clears if I remove the padding...hence the need for advice. If there is the REMOTEST chance I'd ruin the paint on my hood, I'll drop the idea.

The heated paint might absorb contaminants and give the hood a dull-looking finish over time. Unless you always keep it clean. I second the others - don't remove the insulation.

The strut brace probably isn't designed well. Try find another brand that fits.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. I had a gut instinct that if it was put there by lexus...there probably was a darn good reason for it. I'll take your suggestion and attach it back.
