is it ok to use 5w 20 oil?

Default is it ok to use 5w 20 oil?

its for my gs 300 with about 50k miles. thanks

Don't, unless you live in Antartica. 5-20 was designed specifically for Honda, Ford, and DaimlerChrysler to meet CAFE standards.

is there a bad side to using it? it all i could find in mobil one at the autostore. they are out of 5 30.

Walmart and Sams Club carries Mobil 1 as well. Probably better prices too.

I agree, don't go any thinner than the recommended 5W 30 grade. It's not helping anything.

I'm sticking with spec'd 5W30, ok Mobil1 at Walmart last sale.

I use 530 for the winter (easier startups) and 1030 for summer.

GRAND, lol.....forgive me but it says your in Florida How cold does it psooibly get for you to need the 5W 30 grade? Just asking is all.

He's probably in northern Florida. I was there in January without a jacket. Big mistake. It was cold as heck in the morning and late evenings. It's not all sunshine in that state.

I stay in northern cooler area's a lot, and it gets to lower 20's often at night (not anymore). Not to mention, I’ve noticed it was easier to start the car with 530 on my previous cars (cranks faster), so I just got used to switching between the winter and summer.

Anyhow, I rather use what the factory suggested, but summer time does not offer much forgiveness to keep the factory recommended grade.
