In my case, the local Toyota's work is just as good as Lexus. So I'd bring my Lexus there for routine maintenance. For major service, I think that I'd take it to Lexus because I need a loaner. The price difference is minimal if I factor in the rental cost at Toyota.
The only reason NOT to take it to Toyota is when you have a Lexus that has no mechanical equivalent Toyota twins. For example, the IS300 and GS300 use Inline6 engine that Toyota no longer supports (it's similar to the old Supra's engine.) Your GX is mechanically identical to the V8 4Runner, so your local Toyota tech should know what to do under the hood.

That's a good point. I don't know the Toyota dealership's work personally. They should know how to work on a GX for sure. Maybe I'll take it to Toyota for the 5k service visits and back to Lexus for the others. That cuts down on the cost savings, but will help with the time/convenience factor for the more frequent checks.

A good way to check is to go into the Toyota waiting room. Strike a conversation with the customers there and ask how they like the service. Obviously not a bullet-proof way to do a survey, but it should give you some ideas. This is what I did before I brought my RX300 to Toyota.

Although I work on my own car (often with my independent mechanic), other things I take to my local Toyota dealer here in Mexico City, BECAUSE WE HAVE NO LEXUS IN MEXICO.
Nevertheless, my dealer, Toyota Santa Fe, does an A+ job
