Gettin HOT now!
I have a problem. It started last year in the fall when it flooded a little bit down here. Well I drove through it and next thing I know, The a/c button is flashing and hot air is blowing. Not sure what to do, I turn it off. Well it's raining and it's hot so I turn it on. It works. The next day I went to the car wash and leave the car running with the air on. Get in the car the a/c button is flashing again. What might be wrong? Well now the air only works when it wants to but the button stays green but blows hot air only. I got a can of refridgerant to go in there at the toyota place but they said it was the compressor that was shot. But some days it will work and put out very cold air. I am confused. I have read about an expansion valve in the forum before. What is that and is there a way to see if that is the culprit? I would really like to avoid the $1500.00 for a new compressor. Thanks!

Well that will suck. That nice tax return will be used for a new compressor then. Oh well. At least I have the money to do that right now before it gets real hot down here.

My wife's 94 ES had the expansion valve problem. We had it repaired in April, 2004. The cost was slightly over $400.00 at an independent AC repair shop.
If your problem involves the expansion valve, your AC will work intermittantly. It usually does okay when you first crank the car, but eventually will only put out hot air. The problem gets worse when the weather gets hotter.
We never experienced any blinking of the AC button. The cold air just disappeared and was replaced with hot air.
