Default New Oil filter Type??

I just wanted to know what oil filter you guyz use on your sc400. And I know this has been discussed many times and I have used the search button w/ no definite answer. I was looking for 90915-20004 and found out that this filter has been discontinued. I've called lexus for the part # for their sc400 v8 oil filter and they told me 90915-YZZD1....isn't this oil filter for the v6?? So, I went to toyota and bought this same part and part # for half the price. Toyota told me that they used this filter on all their V8's. Did this part replace the 20004?? I notice it is much smaller than the old 20004. Did I make a bad decision?? Any help would be apreciated.

You're right about the YZZD1 being made for the 6 cylinders.
The new 8 cylinder filter is YZZD3.
I don't know why they'd recommend the smaller filter for you.

From here: http://www.intellexual.net/faq.html

The 90915-20004 has been discontinued since mid-December 2003 and replaced with the Thailand-made 90915-YZZD3. All Toyota and Lexus V8s will be assigned this new filter. It has a slightly thinner filter element. The alternative to this is the TRD filter part# 00602-90915-007. The TRD filter is the essentially the same as the old 20004 and is priced the same also ($7.58).

I just buy the YZZD3 for $3.80 @ Toyota dealer.
If it's good enough for Toyota, it's good enough for me.
Still better than FRAM.

I could make my own filter out of a coke can and some coffee filters, and it would STILL be better than Fram

Question HHMMM......

Interesting....The part # looks the same, but the filter does not. This is what I was looking at. The pictured filter is different than the one in the link you posted, but the # is same.

Any idea???

It appears that the parts toyota web site is using generic pictures that don't match up with the individual parts numbers. In fact the white filter pictured with the last three filters listed is the 90915-007 that is shown with a red filter and no number visible on the item. I would go with the part number and just disregard the picture. and the $7.58 is way better than $19.50 for the same part. Is that the difference between buying at Toyota and at Lexus?

Boy what an ingenious description for what may be just an ordinary pleated paper filter element. Hats off to the marketing executives at Toyota Racing Development for finding such clever ways to make more headway into the boy racer / street racer market.

Should the SC300 use the YZZD1 or the YZZD3? And is $3.69 a good price for the YZZD1?

I just went to Carson Toyota (Carson California) Wednesday and they had the 2004 filter, but they were charging $9.00 for it. I bought a few of them regardless of the price. If you don't mind the price, call them up and order a few of those filters.
