Unhappy Steering wheel problems

The steering wheel seems to have a problem with the tilt feature. The telescoping works just fine it is when I get out of the car the wheel will not tilt out of the way. If it does tilt, it till not return back to normal. When I try to adjust it, it will only move a 1/4 of an inch at a time?

Anyone else experience this?

Is there a common fix or is it off to the dealer?

Thank you in advance for any and all help

I'd like to help you out, but try a search for "steering wheel tilt" or something like that. There was a past discussion on how to fix this--taking apart the steering wheel and lubing the 2 motors that tilt and telescope to fix exactly your problem.

Good luck.

Does it happen when the car is in the hot sun ? and when cold it is OK ?

I talked to a Lexus mechanic and he said it could be the positioner sensor in the column.

The problem is pretty much intermittent. Cold, hot, day or night - no rime or reason. As soon as I have some time I will crack the column open and check to make sure there is plenty of grease?

If that won't work if off to the dealership I go....hi ho, hi ho

Also, here's some info from VVT-i (a Lexus tech), about the grease that you should use:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...r&pagenumber=3

Lexus use special kind of grease for the steering column this is the part number 08887-02007. It's light yellow in color in a small plastic bottle ( 50 grams). The retail is $45.00, but don't buy it. Go to Lexus service dept. and go talk to one of the tech and ask him to spare some of the steering column grease. They probably have about 10 or more laying around in the shop.

I went to a Lexus Dealer and a very nice mechanic gave me the special grease for free, but I have not opened up my column yet , am wanting until I have some time.
