A/c recharge for ls400
What's up! Got a question... Can I recharge the freon in my 91 Ls400 myself or do I have to take it in. If I can , where are the connections located for the recharge. Thanks.

Find a friend with a vac. pump , buy some Maxifrig--$6.00 per #; and both of you put it in. Only need about 70% of the R-12 total charge. good stuff--have in 3 cars. read instructions closely.

The 1990-1992 Lexus's came from the factory with R12 refrigerant.
R12 systems are the most reliable and durable in the industry, but some of the R12 refrigerant charge is lost over time. After 10 years or so an R12 system needs to be topped off with 6-12 ounces of R12. One 12 ounce can of R12 costs only $20 on ebay and the charging hose is only $5-10 on ebay. A license is required to buy R12, but to get the license all one has to do is pass a 25 question OPEN BOOK test that can be taken online at http://www.macsw.org/macs.asp?mfurl=certify.html The cost to take the test is $15.
Thus for under $50 anyone can recharge their R12 system with genuine R12 to get it working again (if the system became partly discharged due to normal leakage of refrigerant over time) and never have to deal with the safety consequences of using flammable refrigerants or the negative system performance and durability consequences of converting to R134a refrigerant.
