Default HELP! 2004 IS300 DIY "Maint Reqd" light reset for oil change

went the lexus dealership today to get my oil changed for the 5000 mile freebie.

when i arrived at the dealership, my car did not quite hit the 4500 mile mark yet. thus, the "Maint Reqd" light for the oil change did not come on yet.

i asked the service person to reset the "reminder light" so i won't have to see it when it hits 4500 miles.

well, guess what? they didn't reset the oil light. when i hit 4500 miles, the oil change reminder light would flash when i first turn the car on! i just had the oil changed.

can someone please tell me if it's possible to RESET the Service Reminder Light myself? If so, how would i do it?

OR can i go to a toyota dealership to get the light reset?

the closest lexus dealership is an hour away from me. sigh...i really dunno why didn't reset the light for me before it hit the 4500 mile mark.

someone please help me. the light is quite annoying. and it will stay on when it hits 5000 miles.

thanks!

called the lexus dealership this morning and told them what happened.

they were nice and gave me the step by step instruction on resetting the MAINT light.

this applies to 2004 IS300 model. not sure if this is the same for all models.

1. turn ignition to ON position.

2. toggle the trip/odometer display to display Odometer.

3. turn ignition to OFF position.

4. WHILE holding the ODOMETER button down, TURN the ignition to the ON position. Keep holding the ODOMETER button down until you see the light stay on in 2 seconds and then flash and then OFF.

turn ignition off and then back on to confirm that it's off.

This sequence is also identical for many new 04 Toyota models as well. It's actually listed in the owners manual of a 2004 4Runner.
