You don't want to buy a used a/c compressor.

Don't want to, but dealer wants $1700 for new one with clutch and other "mandatory" parts to get warranty.

I can and will get the parts for less than that price. What is the reason for replacing your compressor? I know it doesn't work. What did the dealer tell you?

originally, the compressor was making a rattling noise when the clutch engaged. after about 2 mos. a few thousand miles, the clutch burned out. the car had 116K miles, i bought it at 75K. here in florida, run the ac pretty much every day, i drive about 80 miles a day. my mechanic was able to replace it yesterday with a used compressor pulled off a wreck. unfortunately, it makes the same noise the one that failed did when the clutch engages, but maybe thats just coincidence. we don't know for sure if the noise comes from the clutch, or inside the compressor. anyway, we picked up the used compressor w/clutch for $295.

we got some info from compressor rebuilders that the checkvalve was also damaged on my original, but we don't know how reliable that analysis was, and the original compressor is now long gone.

so i don't know, maybe the rattling on this used one means its going to die soon too, maybe not. it happens just when the clutch engages for a second or two, then goes away. the rest of the ac system is fine.

how can i reach you if this second compressor fails on me?

thanks

When the mechanic put your clutch in, Did he measure the clearance? If he didn't measure the clearance. You will burn up the clutch very quick. You can reach me at jpimportz@yahoo.com or 214-221-3135 ask for jason.
