Resetting ECU
I was told that it is good to once and awhile reset the ECU on my car. How exactly is the best way to do this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this, what effects will it have? Will it effect the memory of my turbo gauges (Apexi) or Blitz turbo timer or Clifford alarm or any other electronic devices in my car???? I really don't want to mess up my turbo or anything else on my car. Does it matter if you do it in "normal" or "power" mode next to the shifter? Thanks! 94' GS300

I do it on my RX300 all the time. Look in your fusebox for something call the EFI fuse (mine is yellow and 20 AMP). Remove this with the key out of the lock (i.e., do not turn the engine on) for about 30 seconds. This will do it.

This is suppose to return you car to the original factory performance or "race day" settings. I've heard you must leave it disconnected for longer than 30 seconds. There are several old threads about this.

Well, some people like to unplug the battery rather than the fuse. Basically, you will find that doing this will cause the car to have virtually no lag, (i.e., accelerator pedal turns into a Porsche or Ferrari).

I was told this information originally by a friend at Lexus. Here in Mexico City, this is quite a common practice before you go in for emissions testing, i.e., to reset the check engine light. I do have friends with Lexuses here who have done the exact same thing on the following models, and got similar results to what I have stated before about pulling the fuse.

2003 SC430
2001 LX470
2000 ES300
