Default Gas Tank reserve

Hello,

The display showed 0 miles left and the fuel needle is at E.
I have driven about 15 miles before filling it back up.

Is it possible once for the computer to show how much gas reserve is left once the main gas tank is depleted.

not that i know of, you are just burning dangerously into the reserve. i have seen people go 30 miles after hitting zero

i say don't risk it. you don't want to damage the fuel pump

I do not know how to adjust the computer. You have to learn your car and know what gas milage you are getting. I have gone 40-50 miles past 0 on the computer. When I filled up I still had 1.5 Gallons left in the tank. Read the manual, the tank holds 24+ gallons. when you fill up at 0 see how many gallons it will take. Then you know how many gallons you had left, multiply the times mpg and you will have a rough idea of how much further you could have gone. The extra gallons is like emergency fuel to get you a little further. On the road I can get 20+ mpg. I took a trip Minnesota round trip 1600 miles and averaged 20.4 mpg, all highway driving.

I have driven well past 25 miles after it said zero and got the tank to take 21 gallons. That would leave three gallons if the tank really holds 24.

my wife parked ours in the garage with a zero reading. i put 1 gallon in it before venturing to the 4 or 5 miles away gas station where it took 24.5 gal. i find it interesting that after the gas pump automatically shuts off when supposedly full, i can always put 3.8 more gallons in, a big help on an extended trip.

The whole point is measuring gas with a float in the tank very inaccurate. The computer has no idea of how much gas is REALLY in the tank. It does know how much you have used. It is not uncommon for gas tanks to vary a gallon or two.

Well I have almost 5k on the new one and have learned it will take another 3 gals. After the pump auto shuts off. I also think, ( no experience thankfully ) that with a 0 miles remaining it would go another 25 - 30 miles. With the 2 or so remaining.

Forcibly putting more fuel in can potentially damage the emissions system in your car, specifically the charcoal canister and purge valves that control it...

these are generally expensive fixes...

All gas tanks are not equal. Even the same model gas tank can vary a gallon or two in it capacity.

Whenever my car is showing 0 for the range, it only takes about 18 gallons! I am going to take it to the dealer soon and have them check the fuel level sender.

To do that they would have to pull your gas tank which is not something most dealers like to do.

Let us know what they say

That is nuts, is there not an access door below the middle seats like there is on my 80 Series LX 450?

The manual says there is a "reserve" the gauge reads 0 with something like 4+ gallons left. You should read the manual to clarify.
