GX470 Owner looking for LX570 Real Life MPG Experience
I currently own an 05 GX470 and was thinking of upgrading to the LX570. On paper the GX is MPG rated for 14/18 and LX for 12/18. Over the weekend I drove Interstate 5 from SF to LA and with an average speed of 85 was only getting about 16-17mpg on the GX. Since the LX has a more powerful engine and a 6-speed transmission I'm wondering what people's MPG experiences have been with the LX570 on long duration, high speed (~85) trips.

The only trip we have taken was to the mountains. On smaller trips on flat land we get about 17-18 mpg (cruise control).
At 80mph, the LX is at about 2000RPM.

I got 18.2 at a little over 80 in land of flat, Florida!
Around town driving nice I get 15-15.5, less if I drive a little harder.
The 570 is tempting to drive a little harder cause the power feels so good compared to the 470 that I had been driving. Acceleration is really nice and without alot of effort!
RPM are low at highway speeds. The 570 does nto even ship into 6th untill 60+. Very little road/tire noise.

Are those figures from the trip computer in the vehicle or from your own calculations?
I've found that the trip computer in our 2006 LX isn't always all that accurate.

On my 2006 LX470 on the highway I get an average of 17 mpg at 85 mph.
I drive with a lead foot.
No computer calculations for me , I prefer the old fashion way 2+2=5 hehehe

I took a 2 hour drive last night and thought "hey, good time to check the mileage" It was 16.8 but I forgot that I was trying to get a good mileage number so I was heavy on the foot and had to stay slower over bridges too.

Also as heavy as this unit is, it feel very comfortable pushing it thru the turns! I can't wait till I get the Dunlops off and mount the Michelins!

I have checked it both ways. The on board computer is quite accurate from my calculations. I gassed up on a exit off 95 and regassed after 170 miles. These figures are good. Most will be surprised on how well it does on the highway, 60-70MPH gas use should be even better. Around town you can guzzle the gas in HUGE amounts but it provides a good bit of FUN!

I've found our trip computer to be "relatively" accurate in that it's usually within a tenth of a MPG or two. Seem trivial but when you're only talking about 14-15 mpg on avg (that's what I consistently get in mixed driving) every tenth is important to note.
I assume that the new 570 would do better on the highway given the extra cog in the tranny, superior aerodynamics, and suspension which finally lowers at highway speeds.
They're neat vehicles and we're going to have a rough time deciding what to do in 2 years when our lease is up.

I live in a small university town.... a lot of stop an go...
my first full tank of gas, i avg 13.8 mpg...
my second tank of gas, i drove about 4 hrs on the highway, avg 70-75 mph.. and averaged 18.1 mpg... i'm hoping these numbers will improve a little more as the engine gets broken in...

I also agree with gijoe and on all of my Lx470 units, milage did get better after the first 10-15K miles. I am happy now
I forgot, the LX570 extra horsepower allows you to drive with an attitude! Driving with an attitude can bring your MPH down quickly!

I can afford an LX570.
Why the hell should that preclude me from being concerned about gas mileage and the impact on the environment? It probably isn't your number one priority when purchasing a large, body on frame SUV but to many people, like myself, lessening your impact on the environment where possible is, in fact, important.
