FWIW, was told by a salesman Jan 2008 so Lexus can legally call it an '09 model and extend production more than 1 1/2 years until the '10 model in late summer '09 , saving cost of a model year's worth of upgrades . Makes fiscal sense for Toyota for a relatively low volume Lexus model , I guess, but not so good for those in the snow belt who'd rather have it in early Fall this year.

That's the way it is legally allowed in the US. As an example, look at all the " 2007 " used MBZ GLs and Cadillac Escalades that have been on sale since early 2006 , yet they are still the current model year. Manufacturrers do this all the time here .

It is the low numbers that lead me to believe they will purposefully wait until Jan 2008 so they can call it an '09 model, so they don't have to " update " it again by Sept 2008. I hope you are right , but several sales people I've talked to say they are expecting it in January so I wouldn't have one until after some of the ski holidays around here .
