Default Timing belt & water pump

I have LX 470 of year 2002. It has done 65K miles. Kindly guide me for replacement of its water pump, timing belt . Should I wait for 90 K miles or considering age of 13 years , I should replace these parts as soon as possible.

I personally would change the timing belt ASAP. You do not have a lot of miles on your LX and the vehicle will last at least another 15 years with the rate you drive. I would hate to see you ruin your LX with a timing belt failure rendering the 4.7 damaged as it is an interference engine.

do just a little searching on this topic and you'll find lots of opinions.

personally I would not hesitate to run the engine out to 90k miles on that belt, with one important caveat......your water pump and other bearing/pulleys remain healthy. That TB very rarely ever fails but when it does, its almost always relative to something else that locked up. A weeping water pump would one sign for example.

by the way, its also a matter of debate whether this engine is truly interference. spend some time on the site ihatemud and you'll discover one guy with a failed belt who had no damage at all.

I just bought a 2002 lx470 with 99k miles. My mechanic checked to see if the timing belt had really been changed at 90k, and it had been changed. He said that 90k is a good time to change everything associated with the timing belt since you've already paid the labor time to remove the parts to get to the timing belt. These parts include the H2O pump, the engine seals around the timing belts, thermostat, drive belt, and 3-4 pulleys/guides/tensioner associated with the belts. Here in Northern Cal. that turns in to a $1,700 job. Just the timing belt change alone is about $800.
