I think that a cracked exhaust manifold would be a common problem.

Thanks. Is there a easy way for checking the exhaust manifold? I plan to buy a OBD unit for checking the errors, but it is not work! Is my lx470 2002 too old? What protocol does it using?

Thanks.

I have a 2002 LX470 too. I use both the ELM327 OBD2 device and
Torque Pro software on my Android Tablet, and also have the
Toyota Tech Stream OBD2 device and Tech Stream software that
runs on my Laptop or WinBook Tablet.

Default AHC (Automatic Height Control) Suspension is Common Failure in Lexus LX470

I have seen a number of LX470 suffer from failures in the Automatic Active Ride Height Control System. This could be the accumulators, Rear shock cylinders, Manifold/control box failure. Good thing is if you do not want to do the work to maintain that system or the cost that comes with it- you can substitute standard coils like the regular UZJ100 Landcruiser runs. This is very popular on vehicles that end up being used for offroad use. Many AHC systems are removed and lift coils are installed in the rear. As an added procedure, you can completely remove the AHC system altogether alone with under hood fluid reservoir, on frame accumulators, and associated hardware. Just make sure you remove the corresponding relays from the fuse box so you do not have a warning light on the dash. By doing the coil swap you loose adjustability, but gain vehicle responsiveness and solid tracking. You also loose a potential future service issue, expensive replacement parts, and of course a 100lbs of gear is removed.
