Default want to purchase LX450

i own a 99 gs300 looking to purchase my first lx

i have found 2 lx450's in the NY area

1.has about 160k for $9100 appears to be super clean in and out (black on tan)

.2 other is completely customed out 120k 21 inch chrome rims, custom suede leather seats 15inch tv screen ps2 subs all this. clean paint. asking $15,500 (black on black)

which would you guys lean towards the better deal being?

should i go with lower mileage? or save ~6k and take the hit on the 40k mileage difference

too much driving to jump to a v8. prefer the lx450's body style too!

Ah, well these things are pretty reliable, some will leak or burn oil, but its really not an issue, jsut a small annoyance, so small you may not even notice, the things to worry about it rust. i would check both thoroughly, especially underneath. I know you would like to keep your search local, but checking around might not hurt. Just to let you know, the MPG for the 450 is about the same as the 470, both are great cars though. Also, service history would be nice and if you get one, make sure to change the transfer case and differential oil as well. Check IH8MUD for more information as these are like the 80-series landcruiser and there is much more information on there. Between the two, my choice would be the first one, but its hard to tell from just 2 pictures. don't focus so much on mileage, but instead condition.

The Land Cruiser is the same vehicle body wise, minus the cladding. The above link will detail subtle differences from Slee web site. I would check to see whivh one has that magic dial button for front/rear locking differential axles. There are plenty LX450's and LC's to choose from so you can be picky.

id go for it. these are kind of rare. these were not a big seller initially and sadly cash for clunkers back in 09 took a large number of them. i see very very few of these on the road and the few i do see are absolutley trashed. always liked this style of LX

I would get a LX470 if I were to put $15k out. Speaking of LX450/ FZJ80, I have owned 4 of them so far, the one I still have is a 97LX450 fully modded with armor for off road and leisure driving. I have been debating to sell it and get a LX470, but for some reason I have been reluctant to let it go. You just bond with it after a while, the body style, the off road capability and front solid axle is just golden in a Lexus.

If you have not get one, take your time to find one with good maintenance from the owner. Good luck.
