Default 98 lx opinions

Me and the wife been looking for a SUV. Been looking at the gx and qx56. The lx is nice but the newer ones are out of the budget around 19tops with lower being better. Found a 98 w/92k 13.9obo. Looks really clean vin has Lexus svc history up to 70k. It's obviously quite old at this point but it is intriguing. An o2-03 model is with in the budget but for the same money I can get 04-05 gx with lower miles. Are teh 98 g2g should I even consider or is it going start turning into a svc nightmare in year or 2 as it ages?

A major thing with these things, as well as the air suspension. Now our lx had no issue with the air suspension up to 170k miles then we traded it in, but the rubber bushings as well as control arms needed to be replaced. Everything else help up very well. If you can deal with replacing bushings and minor suspension stuff its a great car, but the gas mileage is awful, and it lumbers around...personally i loved it but some will hate it. The only reason we replaced ours was we wanted a new car and since everyone was driving we didn't need something that big....or bad on gas. I will say this though, in snow storms, i wouldn't want to be in anything else. I really do miss the thing

Gas mileage is terrible on pretty much any big SUV not a huge deal and for being a 98 they don't really look their age my wife thought it was a 04+. Hmm what to do lol.

You can find good deals on used LX's but you have to be patient. I picked up our 2000 LX470 with 126k, fresh timing belt, new tires, windshield and front brakes and rotors for 10k.

It was at a Mercedes dealer with a $16k price. Slowly, week by week, the price dropped. After a few months rotting on the lot the price went to 10K on the internet. I emailed the salesman at 10 o'clock at night and told him I would be in first thing in the morning to buy it. I met him as soon as he got out of his car in the morning, took it for a drive and bought it. Two other salesmen had buyers ready to snap it up at the 10k price. My salesman said the dealer put $3k into it getting it ready to sale.

Many, many people will just not consider a vehicle over 100k... Now I need to decide if it's worth fixing the typical rear lift gate rust issue.
