New (to me) LX470
I was looking for a utility vehicle that can tow some. I looked at a new Ford F150 King Ranch, Chevy Silverado, Chevy Avalanche, and Toyota Tundra. Early 00s LX have held my interest for a couple years and have been on my bucket list. Carguy89 spotted this one at a local Lexus dealer and I stopped by today. I had my list narrowed down between a high-end F150 and base level Tundra DoubleCab. Whoops, bought the LX.

I programmed the homelink and removed the 3rd row seats. (What's the best orientation to store the seats?) It appears that the plastic latch at the top of the center console is broken and flops open. A 20 minute drive in the snow this afternoon didn't uncover any major issues aside from the dashboard PRNDL indicator not displaying the gear. I'll take it on my 85 mile round trip commute tomorrow and see what I uncover.
The car only has one key which doesn't have any remote buttons on it. The dealer agreed to program a second key. Did all 01 LXs have the integrated remote fob keys or were some key only?

To answer my own question, all 01 LXs in the US were sold with remote fob keys per my dealer. I'm now working with the parts dept. to order in a fob key and I'll pay the difference between the plain key and the fob key.
I took the short-cut home this afternoon, which includes about 5 miles of rough, unpaved roads. Everything seems solid except for a nasty rattle in the headliner, probably from the aftermarket video unit up there. I'm going to have someone investigate removing it without leaving a gaping gash in the headliner (if possible).

Yes, the truck comes with two remote keys, and one valet key.
The aftermarket video installations are usually a pain. Fixing that rattle is possible, but a bit of a pain -removing the headliner and replacing the fasteners with new ones.

If you have any questions, issues, or things you need to look out for on your lx470, feel free to pm me. We've had it since 20k miles in 2002 till now with 146k miles. Just got back from a trip in the lx driving from buffalo to newark, newark to nyc, nyc back to newark, newark to hartford, hartford to boston, boston back to hartford, and finally back to to buffalo. These are great suv's and when it comes time to get a new one, i will be buying a 07 lx470. People may call them slow, but its completely adequate if you don't drive it like a sports car. Power will be a big change from your ls430 though haha

I had a chance to take some (wet) pics today of the Riverrock Green Mica. No major issues, yet. I'm going to pick some friends up for an early dinner so there will be a couple extra sets of eyes and ears to look for problems.

You also see my mud-stained driveway from my daughter's minivan. She lives on a gravel road off a dirt road and comes to my house daily to care for the dog and make me dinner while I'm at work. I've always had the muddiest driveway in the neighborhood because both of my late wife's daily caregivers also lived on dirt roads. The LX is upholding that tradition because it's also mud caked from visiting friends for New Years - who all live on dirt roads. One would think Michigan, the auto capital of the world, would have more paved roads.

I found a couple more issues today when washing the truck for the first time today:
- Loose rear bumper cover (will have them fix this under my 30 day warranty)
- Couple scrapes and marks on front bumper cover
- Number of small dents, scratches, and scrapes at the top of doors, roof, and roof rack from cargo carrier use. One of them needs some touch-up paint.
- Small impact point (no crack) on the factory windshield (will get this filled)
- A number of car wash brush scratches along the rear sail panels
- Missing rubber bumper at the bottom corner of the front passenger door (warranty item)

Minor things considering the age of the car, i really love these things. So much infact, i have been throwing around the idea of selling my es300 and buying an older 98-00 (in my price range) lx or land cruiser since i am not driving as much and my driving is more highway driving to ski country and back and forth from cleveland to buffalo in the winter

Caddy: From your other thread about washing your cars, did you get a chance to spray down the driveway? I would love to own a 470 someday (makes a sweet winter ride, up there with the Hummer H1 and Benz G Wagon for me) but I would not enjoy washing it lol. I'm decently tall (at 6 ft) but I doubt I could reach the roof of that beast
