Default LX-470 Frame Rust

If anyone is considering purchasing a used LX-470, I would recommend it be taken to a body shop and inspected for rust to the frame and components. I purchased a 2000 model with 66,000 miles. The exterior and interior of the vehicle were in excellent condition. I have now discovered due to a rear air conditioner line leak the entire underbody is rusted well beyond enviromental rust. Lexus Customer Care and Lexus Rivercenter in Covington Kentucky were of absolutely no help.

was the vehicle out of warranty? What happened to the frame to make it rust that bad? So a dealership and Lexus customer care would not help you? I'm sure there is more to this side of the story....

my lx 470 1999 ac packed up 3yrs ago refil after refill no cold air, l just found out that the entire underneath frame is rusted and pipes for brakes and gas lines after l went to Herb Chambers at #25 Providence Highway Rte 1 Sharon. height adjuster is off evey thing attached to the frame, my truck is only 88000 on it. l got it new and parked at my driveway with cleared driveway during winter. my other car an older 1996 Dodge stratus does not have such problem, what can one do for this very expensive truck or what option does one have?

I don't think Lexus Customer Care has any obligation. The LX you have is really old.

LX will not rust anymore then any other modern vehicle actually less. You have to take care of the underside of any vehicle that lives in the rust belt. Do a search.

I have 2000 LX470 in NH. rear AC line rusted out and disconnected rear AC, use just front. Yes rust is an issue. Need to replace rear brake lines as well. 120K miles on mine, and wash off salt in winter. Also doing some spray paint over rusted areas as well. Rust will probably kill this vehicle rather than other more traditional issues like engines and transmissions. Also had to replace rear calipers that froze up and scored the rotors. Pads were still good for another 20K miles.
