Transmission Fluid Change
Hey All,
I just did a trans fluid drain on my 99 LX470. It only has 63K on it and the dealer did it when it had 46K on it back in 2005 so I figured I'd do it this time. I drained approximately 3.75 quarts out of it using the drain plug with the front wheels on shallow ramps. I refilled it with 4 quarts of Dextron III and it is still not up to the hot level after driving it. The owners and service manual state that a drain and refill should only be 2 quarts. Anyone experience the same thing? The dipstick appears to be original. I have owned the truck since 01 so .....
Thanks...

Fluid Level
I did check it before changing and it was on the lower side of full. The owner's manual states that a trans drain and refill is 2 quarts. I got out 3.75 qts and replaced with 4.25 qts to bring to the correct level. This is the way my GS430 is too. Seems Lexus misstates the amount of fluid that drains out of the trans.

the 2 quarts is probably just the tranny without draining the torque converter. perhaps you were able to drain the torque converter or part of it which is good, since now you have more fresh fluid in the tranny

Lexus
I don't think I drained the torque converter. I think it is Lexus' consistent mistake on calculating trans fluid drain. I have 3 Lexus' and all take close to double the 2 quarts Lexus claims in their respective owner's manuals. It is just scary believing that you are overfilling.
