2003-2007 LX470 Recall
According to Lexus, the recall announced for its 2003-2007 LX 470 is not related to the recall just announced for the Toyota Avalon, despite both recalls being centered around faulty steering components.
Lexus says that the steering shaft on the LX 470 was engineered in such a way that the snap ring on the shaft can potentially disengage if the vehicle experiences “unusually severe impact” to the front wheels, citing deep potholes as an example. Should the ring become disengaged, the steering shaft could potentially disengage over time.
“Our engineers have thoroughly investigated this issue and have identified a robust and durable remedy that will help prevent this condition from affecting drivers in the future,” said Mark Templin, group vice president and general manager of Lexus.
In order to fix the issue Lexus will replace the snap ring with a new design, as well as the installation of an additional component which is aimed at preventing separation of the steering shaft.
Like Toyota’s Avalon recall, the LX 470 recall notices will begin shipping in late August.
