"exhaust booming at idle"
I am the owner of a 2004 Lexus LX470 with 90k miles. When my truck is stopped and idling in Drive there is a terrible deep "drone" noise / vibration. When I take my foot off the brake and coast or when I shift out of Drive to Neutral or Park the RPM's rise and the noise / vibration goes away.
Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone had their dealer perform the attached? If so, did it resolve the above-described problem? Any and all additional insight is appreciated.
Thank you very much.

What they're describing in those .pdfs does make sense, because if any of those bolts or dampers are not on tight, the tone and vibration will be severe. If it were me, I'd be going underneath the vehicle to check that ever one of those bolts mentioned is on tight and if it wasn't I'd verify if the gasket is corroded. I had that very issue in my RX300 and ended up replacing several areas that had gasket and/or bolt issues with straight pipe. I'd also verify if you have any damage on the resonator or muffler.
The reason I ask about the rpms in D is that sometimes the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) can get sticky and you can get a higher RPM than normal in D when coming to a stop. The sound can be very similar to booming or a higher than normal tone and requires one to open up the IACV and clean it out.

Our LX just started having this problem at 60,000 miles. We didn't know what was causing it. Took it in to the Tampa dealer and they didn't fix it. Took it back and they called and said it was the exhaust system and they would have to order parts. They said it was covered under the powertrain warranty? Hope so. Thanks for the TSIB. I scanned it and e-mailed to my wife so she can have it when she goes in to pick it up.

lexmex: thank you for your most informative post. so you are saying that higher - not lower - rpms could be the culprit? i believe my problem is that the rpms dip too low.
cygator: have you gotten your truck back? did the dealer fix the problem? has the problem resurfaced? what work was performed and what's the name of the dealer?
thanks to all.
