Default Battery - how long does it last?

I'm on my original Panasonic battery, car manufactured 01/2001 so battery is on its 9th year, still going strong, cold Chicago winters and hot & humid summers, go figure, car kept outside a lot, thinking about getting a new Optima 35 red top (reversed) just in case, never had OEM battery last that long?

My battery was still fine on my 2001 but I put an Odyssey 1700 in last year. The specs are incredible on the Odyssey and I would rather not find out at 3:00 am that my OEM battery is now dead.

Just replaced my 2 year old NTB battery in the LX on Monday. I was just outside the free replacement warranty, but did get a prorated amount back. Bought NTB's 84 month battery which has 200 more CCAs, than the one it replaces so hopefully it will last longer. Both my local Lexus service writer and the tech at NTB said our extremely hot central Texas summer has wreaked havoc on batteries this year.

Go for it, you're living on borrowed time. Nine years for any battery is truly exceptional !

That Panasonic battery has to be the best battery ever made. I replaced mine at 6 years with an Intersate. If the made the Panasonic here where we could buy them I would have went back with it. Do your homework and check consumer reports, etc. I found that the Intersate was the best per testing, etc and went with it. It beat the other coil batterys, etc. Cost $89 me but retail was $139.

On my 99' at
9/09/06 95,182 miles dealer replaced battery $159 (battery $104)

The problem ended up being faulty starter but hey, 95k is pushing it on original battery.

I'm keeping the new one in the trunk just in case and the OEM Panasonic keeps going and going, despite freezing December cold no trouble starting the car in the AM and the batterry sensor window shows blue color as it should.

2001 LX470 with 155K miles, original battery, if it makes pass January 1st it will be on it's 10th year.

Just replaced mine today after 6 1/2 years without a single problem and then all of a sudden last night it went dead. I charged it with a slow trickle all night and it cranked up fine this morning but was comletely dead again by lunch time so after 6+ years it did its job it was completely reliable. I replaced it with a Die hard Platinum. I havent seen anyone mention those up in here what's up with that? I think they're good batteries I have never had a problem with them.

I got 9 years out of mine. I decided to replace it even though it was still working fine. I didn't want my wife to get stranded somewhere.

Battery life depends a lot on the weather. Here in AZ, you'll get more life parking outside than in the garage, where temps can be 120F+. The panasonic on mine lasted 3.5 yrs (was still going, but we weren't driving much and it drained over a couple of weeks during the winter). The average battery in AZ lasts 1.5 yrs, so the OEM battery still got twice the life. I replaced it w/ an Odyssey PC1700 full metal jacket. Excellent battery, so far 3.5 yrs on it. My LS got a new Lexus battery when I bought it back in Sept, so I plan to buy an Odyssey for it in about 1.5-2 yrs and keep it in the house for a backup, as I'll be downsizing to two cars.

I'm in S. CA (no temp. extremes), our LX is garage kept at home and at work and driven regularly (about 12,000 miles/year).

Our OEM battery died at about 3.5 years old. This was apparently very unusual and Lexus graciously replaced our batter under warranty.

100% agree.

They have been nothing but problems, and with so many better (and cheaper!!!) choices, I will never buy an Optima again.
