PANIC!! ENGINE light on
Hi Guys,
Panic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...can't breathe.................. ARggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!
I unhooked the positive terminal of the battery of my 1998 LX470 to start my Alpine W205 install (Thanks to Kingomar for helping me with information to get started by pulling off the trim plate and door panels. ). Then after a day of working (playing) on it, I reconnected the batter an wow...problems:
- The egine CHeck light (orange) comes on (i have checked the gas cap), so I suspect something electrical
- The orange corner lights do not flash when I turn on my signals or with the emergency flashers. (however they flash when the remote key lock is pressed to lock the car)
- My wife is nagging like crazy that I busted the car (I dont know if you or anyone for that matter can help with that).
So I would appreciate any help with this matter.
Garry

alright, first both you and your wife take a deep breath. im sure you didnt bust the car.
The turn signal bulb is actually next to the foglight, below the headlight. It is NOT the same as the bulb in the corner light that blinks when you lock and unlock the doors. The corner light bulb will NOT flash with the turn signals.
ALso, check all your fuses. you may have blown a fuse (this is my best guess).
Now as for the engine light, does it stay on long after you start the car? if you turn the key past the "ACC" position to the point where the dash lights up, but before starting the car, the engine light will turn and stay on (as far as i remember). Try starting the car and letting it run.
also, does your new head unit work? if it and all its features work, i doubt there's an electrical problem.
Hope it works.

I check all the fuses inthe engine bay and below the dash by the driver's L foot; all OK.
I thought the corner lights were the turn signals too...OMG ..I stand corrected and less panic is in order. This corner light buld is a single filament and lights up when the side marker lights come on.
OK assuming the lights are ok...whew...the ECL (engine check light) still remains on when I startthe car and it iddles... do I need to drive it for it to go out?
I have not hooked up the head unit yet...kinda slow rookie here.
Other LX owners want to chime in please?

You can always get the code reader if you want, Ill explain more in detail if you want to take that route...

I was actually going to suggest the same thing as Val. Go ahead and drive it with the CEL. It'll go off. That light came on for me once and it went off after a quick drive. Also check your gas level. Sometimes very low gas can cause it to come on
