LX470 towing capabilities

I am considering buying a camping trailer to pull behind my LX470. I know that my truck is rated to pull 6,500 pounds, but is that a conservative or liberal number? I do not have much experience towing so I do not want to overburden my vehicle, but at the same time, I want to get the biggest trailer that it can handle.
Any help is appreciated.

I tow with mine. Featherlite double axil race car trailer with my LS on it.
Some things to consider:
1) the LX is wired with a 4 pin flat trailer lite pin; you will need a 7-pin for a larger trailer and putting that on has been a nightmare. I would rather add a SuperCharger. Three Lexus dealers and two trailer specialty shops have busted their hump on it. Finally had it done (or so they say) in Reno. I will pick up the truck and see next week.
2) the LX is relatively narrow and larger travel trailers are 8'6" wide. There are no decent mirror extenders for the LX. But then, who needs to look to merge?
3) the LX is not over-powered, but it is strong. You will live with the transmission and shifting if you go cross country. If you want to simulate this, get 4-5 of your 200+ friends to hop in and go for a fast jaunt up some hills and around some curves.
Have fun,
