My experience is the same as yours. 2000 miles round trip luggage for the first 1000; luggage, 2 people, 4000lb trailer on the next 1000 miles. 17.5 going out; 13 coming back. My wife was in a V8 Tundra hauling a 2800lb Porsche on a 1500lb trailer and got 17mpg with that payload!

.....What speeds were you doing for these 2 stretches (75mph+??), and was it mostly flat open highway or did it include some hilly stretches??

Thanks!

Well, just to give you guys some comparisons, my G500 gets about 11-13 mpg in city and 14.5 mpg on highway. Premium gas is REQUIRED. At least, you guys can put regular fuel if needed...i can't. (I have just a bit over 2000 miles on my G.)

Vic,

We maintained 70mph and on each trip there was around 700mi flat and 300mi in good size hills. The vehicle could have pulled it faster but I would have been driving too fast for my braking ability with that weight behind me. I don't put any faith in trailer brakes.

In my situation, it was mostly flat and I was doing anywhere from 75-80mph.

Thumbs up Thanks for your responses!

It seems as though highway mileage is on the lower side to begin with and increased speed just kills fuel economy!! ........I can only imagine how much WIND RESISTANCE this vehicle has to overcome at speeds like 80mph .......while the city mileage of my MDX is not that different (I get around 14.5 to 15.5mpg in pure city driving) my highway mileage is way higher (at a contant 75 to 80 mph I get around 23mpg)

I am contemplating buying a used 2000 or 2001 LX 470, but the gas mileage really scares me, cause I drive around 25K miles/year in my business

Oh yes, that is definitely the downside to the LX as with any of the big-boy utes. I certainly feel your pain as I've put over 40k miles on mine since October I chalk it up as paying the price for that combination of reliability, refinement, and off-road ability. It still hurts though

Also keep in mind that the MDX is primarily a front wheel drive vehicle that engages the rear wheel drive only when wheel slippage occurs. This definitely helps your gas mileage.

The LX is a full-time all wheel drive system, meaning that power is being directed to the front and rear wheels all the time.

Well, vicpai, the drag coefficient of the LX vs. MDX is not all that huge. Among factors, don't forget that the LX is also A LOT HEAVIER than the MDX. As mentioned above, LX has full-time 4wd system.
