I want a 16' LX 450d
I noticed that Lexus in Asia makes a LX 450d turbo diesel? Does anyone have one and here in the States? I have the "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome.

I doubt that it would be allowed in the US.

I don't think we can have the diesel engines like that here. Lots more choices overseas. I wish we had the diesel engines here. It is good that Nissan Titan has diesel engines now, but it's a small one by Cummings. I think Toyota is coming out with a diesel engine pick up truck too. I'm hopeful.

Toyota is supposedly close to offering a diesel in the Tundra. Not sure if its a Toyota or other maker's engine. Owning a Dodge 2500, I'd say the 5.9L Cummins would be about perfect in a Cruiser or LX. Up until the point where it shredded the transmission after smoking both differentials and the transfer case.

I have to say I just don't get it. It might be due to the LX/Landcruiser cost and extremely limited sales.
MB, BMW, Chevy, Ford are all offering diesels in the U.S.
My friend has a 2016 Landcruiser and is running around at12MPG. I don't think most motorhomes get much less.
I suppose to make matters worse, the VW TDI scandal is not helping to promote clean diesel technology.

My 2015 30 ft "C" class motor home E450 with a Ford V10 gas engine get around 8 mpg (with the generator going half the time). Yes, lots more room vs the LX, but does not ride like the LX. The motor home rides like a real truck!! To get better mpg on the motor home, one will have to upgrade to a diesel pusher. A friend of mine moved up to a class "A" diesel pusher by "Tiffin " . It still only got like 14 mpg at best. But it rides much better as it ought to bc it costs to the tune of $450K!! I guess at that price point, mpg is irrelevant.

Your friend may want to check for an over active right foot. The last thing I worried about when purchasing our two was mpg. It's an almost 3 ton truck with the aerodynamics of a box. The '13 Cruiser did get 18+ mpg at a steady 75 mph across the Nevada desert on her last long road trip; 14-16 in the city is normal.

On the highway, my 2013 LX570 gets around 19mpg cruising at 75mph. Not too bad. But in city stop and go, it gets like 12mpg or less.
Limited sales is correct... ~ 7000 series 200's in 2015 for North America.

You won't get that truck in the US until it's old enough.... Gotta wait 25 years.
Just like all the guys on ih8mud wishing they can import some of the earlier 100 and 105 series that came with the turbo diesel, manual trans, F&R solid axles, etc. Can't import those to the US yet.

MPG is not a concern for me as much as a "wish" matter. MB GL has diesel. I think everyone is speculating. It's just a matter of time. For me, diesel is the way to go on trucks. Tyically better torque, less power, and last longer. I really don't care for spirited driving in a truck or SUV. I have a car for that kind of stuff. Perhaps it is just political that Toyota cannot sell diesels in the US for now.

It would be great to see a diesel option on any of the gassers that get under 20mph.
I own a 2016 Ram full size truck with the 3.0L EcoDiesel and get 30+ hwy and mid 20's around town. 420lbs of torque at 2200rpm is a great feeling! Glad I bought it when I did!

I personally enjoy the gasser 5.7 in the LX. Its passing power on two lane roads is pretty darn good, and is where hp really shines. Agreed that a diesel motor would deliver better low down torque, but at a trade for this at speed passing power of the gasser. Personally, I think the 5.7 delivers just fine in the tq department - 403 ft/lbs @ 3600 with pretty low 1st gearing.
I can't complain about the hwy gas mileage. It's actually quite good for this behemith, even at higher speeds.
What I would really enjoy is that 36 gallon tank from the newer Tundras!
